Celebrate Colorado's mushroom harvest season with a day of adventure, education, and delicious foraged food! Join Alex and Mal for PorciniFest '25, a mushroom hunting hike followed by a group dinner featuring freshly foraged porcini.
🗓️ Event Schedule
- 9:00 AM – Meet at our home:📍 60 Shelton Dr., Bailey, CO 80205
- 9:45 AM – Caravan to Deer Creek Trailhead
- 10:00 AM – Depart from Deer Creek Trailhead
(If you're running late, plan to find us on the trail — cell service is limited.) - 10:00–11:00 AM – Begin hike & introduction to porcini hunting (approx. ¾ mile up)
- 11:00 AM–12:00 PM – Guided group foraging along the trail
- 12:00–1:00 PM – Lunch break (bring your own lunch!)
- 1:00–3:00 PM – Continue hiking and harvesting mushrooms
- 3:00–5:00 PM – Return hike, gathering anything we missed on the way down
- 5:00 PM – Head back to Alex & Mal’s house
- 6:00 PM – Mushroom dinner: enjoy porcini alfredo or porcini with buttered noodles!
🌲 What to Bring:
- Backpack for carrying mushrooms
- Harvesting knife
- Lunch and water (or water purification method)
- Sunscreen & bug repellent
- Comfortable hiking gear
- Your curiosity and sense of adventure!
🐾 Dog-friendly! There’s plenty of water on the trail for pets.
🍄 What You’ll Learn:
We’ll teach you how to identify porcini mushrooms, along with other local treasures like golden chanterelles, amanita muscaria, and more. Expect light bushwhacking off-trail in some sections as we seek out the best mushroom patches.
This is a beautiful trail with a long, steady incline — come ready to hike and look for mushrooms.
Whether you're a mushroom hunting novice, or a seasoned pro we'd love you join our hike!
Don't feel like hiking the whole time? That's ok! There are plenty of beautiful spots along the trail to stop and rest, taking in the beautiful ecosystem before the group comes back for you on the way down.
🍽️ Mushroom Feast at Alex & Mallory’s
After a day of foraging, hiking, and soaking in the beauty of the Colorado high country, we’ll gather back at Alex and Mallory’s home for a well-earned mushroom-themed dinner—all made with the porcini we harvested together.
Enjoy one (or more!) of the following homemade dishes:
- Porcini Alfredo Pasta – Creamy, rich, and earthy—this dish lets the porcini shine in a velvety white sauce over fresh pasta.
- Porcini with Buttered Noodles – A simple classic: golden sautéed porcini over perfectly buttered egg noodles with herbs and cracked pepper.
- Thin-Crust Bar-Style Porcini Pizza – Crispy, cheesy, and loaded with fresh porcini mushrooms, this crowd-pleasing pizza is baked to perfection and served hot from the oven.
We’ll eat, drink, and share stories from the trail. Bring your appetite, your favorite beverage, and maybe a camp chair or two—we’ll have seating inside and out. It’s the perfect way to wrap up PorciniFest '25.
